This lone, friendly, frantic bunny was spotted in an area where the hedges and bushes were being torn up for a construction project due to start today. Debbie and Lynn raced off in the cold and snow last night to get this girl. The bunny was hiding under a pier and ran to Debbie as soon as she called. Says Lynn: “I saw this scared eager bunny against the white blowing snow and I knew we had to get her. She screamed and screamed but then as I talked to her she calmed down and held her against me.” So this girl, now named Joyce, is safe at the shelter. We really need some foster homes, with the cold weather our outdoor holding spaces are even challenged meaning feral rabbits we expected to stay outside are taking space inside. Help!!

We love our volunteers. <3 When a rescue is caring for hundreds of rabbits, there are always questions about the ability to spot medical issues, but our sharp-eyed crew do a pretty good job. Health checks can be as simple as making sure every rabbit in every colony comes to eat when dinner is served, but issues like these ones are harder to spot. But spot them they did. :) (The toe bunny just got an immediate amputation surgery and the vets are still trying to figure out the issue with the urine scald bunny).
Rabbitats' protocol calls for monthly 'bunny spas' where all the rabbits get physical exams and grooming (if needed), but manpower is a challenge. We are again without a proper Volunteer Coordinator, we're hoping to fill that position ASAP, but in the meantime if anybody wants to step up for the spas, we'd really appreciate it! We're based in Richmond, BC. (PS: We already have a 'spa' scheduled for one of our micro-sanctuaries in the Surrey/North Delta area this Saturday if anybody wants to help).

Remember the girl the wonderful people at the Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley called us about earlier this month? She was found on the side of the road in Richmond with an apparent injury and head tilt? We agreed to pay the bill and take her in but it turned out she was under the BC SPCA's account so we sent the donations their way ($250) and they took her in at their Vancouver location. They named her Tilda. 😆 Well she's now completely cured and as of tomorrow she'll be up adoption! She's apparently a sweetheart. <3
