Big Bertha with her jaw abscesses is doing okay but now we’re losing Dancer, another one of the very first rabbits trapped at the Auto Mall and part of our first colony of a dozen or so that went to our Surrey, BC, sanctuary. She was an adult when trapped 4 1/2 years ago. We just lost Dee Dee and another bunny from that group before her. Old age is setting in. (Kudos to sanctuary manager Kathy Lucier for spotting the problems so quickly). Meanwhile, we need more help with special needs rabbits, that’s our biggest issue. We have a hard time finding the resources to care for the sick and injured ones. We don’t have the volume of shelter volunteers who can handle the frequency and timing required to medicate rabbits, etc.. We REALLY need more volunteers willing to help with that. We don’t want to see these bunnies suffer and they have a lot of life in them yet so we don’t want to euthanize them, either. Please message or email if you can help!

Adoptable Bunny - Hansel needs to go home. π€
"My name is Hansel, and I'm about 7.5 years old. I used to have a partner named Gretel, who I loved very much. But every since she passed, I have been so alone.
I have cataracts in my eyes and am blind. This makes me fearful of sudden noises or movements. I'm nervous about what I can't see.
I spend most of my day hiding in my enclosure. Sometimes I get outside time, but every bunny needs a turn - and there are so many bunnies.
I have had a hard life. I was not treated well as a young bunny, and that has made me afraid. I used to have Gretel for comfort, but now even she is gone. I'm scared that this is what the rest of my life will look like - stuck in a shelter with just pellets to look forward to. Unless someone takes a chance on me and brings me home.
It will take time for me to feel safe in a new place. But I don't feel safe right now. The shelter is filled with bunnies and noises that I don't understand. I need a home where I can finally let my guard down, and feel peace in my senior years. If you can do that for me, please help."

Happy bunnies out at our Kindred Farm space. β€ π°π Two years ago supporters helped us raise enough funds to buy a small share of this wonderful co-op housing project with the Kindred Community Farm, allowing both organizations to have the stability of a forever space. β€ It takes a lot of planning and building to accommodate all the animals, it will be a work in progress for quite some time. But the current rabbits have been moved from their rickety temporary lodgings to this sweet indoor/outdoor enclosure while Kindred constructs their new barn. (PS: This video is from a couple of weeks ago, the grass had to be covered by wire, because of course the bunnies were digging to China!) We don't know where the dust will settle on a permanent area with more rabbits (Kindred was originally looking at 10 acres and ended up with just under 5 acres so space is tight) but our Kindred bunnies are super happy and well supported by a great crew of volunteers. πΉ πΏ ...
