UPDATE: RIP Pumpkin Spice. 😢 She passed away overnight prior to today's scheduled surgeries.
Sorry for being MIA, we're very busy with these ailing rabbits. We're making a separate post for the update because we have a very kind soul offering to match funds up to $500 for this crew. ❤ Today's bill alone was $1000 just for the exams, one biopsy and one of an expected six surgeries. The rest are hopefully being squeezed in tomorrow with Dr. Rana coming in on his day off. ❤
To recap, we've had at least seven rabbits affected by some sort of bug after our spay/neuter clinic in late October. We were using the SPCA facilities and supplied our own army of volunteer vets and techs and had 30 rabbits there in total. The infections are subcutaneous on the abdomens, not the surgery sites. (Most are boys). They've been getting around the clock care with antibiotics and pain killers, most are holding their own, but almost all will need surgery. Dr. Rana, the best bunny surgeon ever, has been away until today but he and the Apex staff jumped right in to help.
This is obviously going to be a record vet bill on top of our regular load.
Please help! Remember, the first $500 in donations will be matched! A big thank you to our anonymous donor!

Really bad week for bunny health -- and the bunny health budget.
Dayton Ash, the sweet young abandoned girl found with a broken leg in Richmond turned out to be pregnant. She had been confined to a carrier after surgery on her leg and gave birth to four seriously challenged babies who one-by-one passed away. Dayton was in bad shape when rescued, the vets didn’t want to further jeopardize her health with a spay. To make matters worse, she appeared to have a stuck kit, but after a rush trip to the vet and a set of x-rays, that wasn't the case. (The x-rays showed her leg is healing really well, though!)
Things got much worse when two of the male rabbits neutered at our spay/neuter clinic last weekend came down with serious abdominal sores, followed by another five clinic rabbits over the next few days. :o It appears a very bad bacteria was present somewhere in the clinic setting (we suspect a fluids line), causing major subcutaneous skin issues in the abdomen (not the surgical sites). This type of necrosis is progressive and extremely serious and will most likely require multiple surgeries and treatments costing thousands of dollars.
Donations to our depleted Sick Bunny Fund are sorely needed!
