We recently put out an urgent call for a nursing mother to care for a litter of orphaned baby bunnies. A kind family reached out; they had been given a rabbit named Hazel who was just 4 months old, and unbeknownst to them, pregnant.
Tragically, this new mom had an undetected injury while she was being given space to safely raise her babies. Hazel had a severe abdominal infection and, despite immediate vet care, it had already spread too far. 😞🌈
Hazel left behind eight babies of her own, now orphaned as well. We’re up to 12 orphaned babies needing multiple daily feedings and attentive daily care.
It is a heartbreaking situation for all involved, but we are committed to giving every one of these babies the best chance at a healthy, happy life. If you are able, donations towards their care are deeply appreciated.

The faces of 10 dumped bunnies, irresponsibly bred and abandoned in a local park to fend for themselves. For one young rabbit, it meant the end of their life.
Education alone cannot stop this. Rabbits will continue to be exploited and discarded unless government steps in to create real change. Change that looks like:
❕Provincial Strategy & Collaboration: Create a coordinated provincewide rabbit management strategy with funding and data tracking.
Consider:
❕Breeder & Retail Regulation: Require licensed breeders, spay/neuter before sale, and restrict retail sales.
❕Animal Control & Enforcement: Strengthen abandonment penalties and standardize municipal intake protocols.
❕Housing & Tenant Protections: Encourage pet-friendly rentals and support tenants with small pets.
❕Spay/Neuter & Veterinary Support: Fund accessible spay/neuter programs and veterinary incentives.
❕Education & Public Awareness: Launch provincewide rabbit welfare campaigns and provide care information.
Help make a change and contact your local representatives.
Email UBCM@ubcm.ca and ask them to support Resolution NR77, calling for a provincewide strategy to address rabbit abandonment and responsible rabbit management.
