EMERGENCY! The extremely contagious Rabbit Hemorrhagic Virus 2 has been found on Canada’s Vancouver Island and it’s likely to spread. Our rescue is more at risk than others because we take in abandoned rabbits from the street and house them in protected but outdoor colonies. We need to vaccinate our rabbits. The vaccine is insanely expensive, it’s being imported from the UK under an emergency drug release program. Please help us cover these costs!

We're desperate for medical fosters, and Sesame and Tiramisu are the most in need.
Sesame (black) and Tiramisu (harlequin) are a six 1/2-year-old bonded pair. They've been in the family for over 6 years, originally rescued from under some shipping containers on Minoru Boulevard.
Sesame is struggling with a terrible respiratory infection, and he needs a place to recover. A shelter full of hay dust is no place for him, our recovery room metal cages are a stressful environment, and our vet room is tied up with incoming quarantines. This infection has been antibiotic-resistant, and he needs a medical foster to give him a new full course.
Tiramisu has fewer medical concerns. Beyond watery eyes, she is stable. Changing living quarters can cause stress to rabbits, which may bring new or developing health issues to our attention.
What does it look like to medical foster?
- Must be comfortable administering daily oral medication/ are ready to learn.
- Short minimum foster periods. Even a few weeks could be hugely beneficial to this pair.
- Vet bills are 100% covered by the rescue. Appointments are scheduled by the Rabbitats team, and transport support is available to and from appointments.
- Limited supplies available to borrow

Speed dates don’t guarantee a love match.
It can take two or even three sessions to find the right fit.
It’s a significant time commitment - by the end of a tricky date, humans are exhausted and single bunnies are DONE with the day. But we keep trying because we know that the benefit is worth the journey. 🤍
Getting your bunny a friend of their choosing is the greatest gift. We hosted a big day of speed dates, and found a couple of lasting matches:
Oscar + Sally - Zero fights. In the past, Oscar has lovingly been referred to as “Big Bully” and “The Grouch,” so you can imagine how elated we are about this match. Meant to be.
Juniper + Garry - A bit of a toxic match! Lots of grooming from miss Juni… but also lots of bites. They’re separated for now.. but who knows what the future holds?
Harper + Stella - Harper is flighty and energetic - an energy that tends to freak other bunnies out! Stella seems to love his chaos, and can’t stop grooming him, when he sits still. Harper is undecided as to whether or not he likes his new roommate.. but we feel like Stella’s charm will win him over.
Wasabi + Amalthea - Reunited! This is mommy and daddy from the Hope rescue. Spayed and neutered, they were ready to meet again. And boy did they miss each other 🥹
Luper and Leishen went home alone - no perfect matches this time. But when they’re ready to try again, we’ll be here!
