The Importance of Spaying + Neutering Your Rabbits

  • Preventing “oops” litters – When left unaltered, bunnies will act like bunnies. In just one year, two unfixed bunnies can transform into 1000+. With overrun shelters, there are few options for unexpected litters.
  • Health – 60% of unspayed female rabbits aged 4+ will develop uterine cancer. This cancer is painful and often deadly.
  • Temperament – Fixed rabbits are calmer, less-destructive, and more affectionate. Unfixed rabbits are more likely to show territorial aggression, mounting, and destruction.
  • Bonding – Bunnies are almost always happier and healthier when living as a bonded pair. Trying to bond unfixed rabbits, however, will likely end in disaster! Fights and broken bonds are to be expected.

4 Ways to Spay/Neuter Your Rabbit

We want to remove any roadblocks associated with spaying/neutering your bunnies. Here are four methods for spay and neuter support.

1. Go to an Exotic Vet

The easiest way to get your bunny fixed is to take them to a trusted vet. Bunnies require specialty care and must see an exotic vet for all of their health needs.

You can find a list of our recommended vets here.

2. Get on the Waitlist

Rabbitats hosts regular spay and neuter clinics for both our rabbits and our local bunny community. Procedures are available by donation for a fraction of the price. All funds raised go directly to helping rabbits in need.

3. Request Support

If you are unable to afford spaying or neutering your rabbit, we’re here to help. We offer judgment-free community assistance to individuals in need.

4. Adopt Don’t Shop

When you adopt from a reputable rabbit rescue, your rabbit will always be spayed/neutered. This can save you hundreds of dollars in medical bills, while also bypassing the behavioral issues that come with unfixed rabbits.
