Delta Drafting Rabbit Abandonment Bylaw

It will soon be against the local law to abandon rabbits in Delta, BC..

In addition to education to discourage people from dropping off their unwanted pets, council this week also agreed that staff bring forward a bylaw making the abandonment of rabbits a ticketable offence.

 Delta also presented a motion at this year’s Union of B.C. Municipalities convention requesting the province implement a province-wide ban on the sale of unsterilized rabbits.  The motion was endorsed and will be presented to the province.

A report about the rabbit relocation program notes the precinct appears to be largely free of rabbits following the relocation of 200 or so to Ladner Harbour Park, and that the project cost substantially less than expected thanks to assistance from volunteers.
